Arizona Painting Company recently completed an exterior repaint of a 2,499-square-foot, two-story home in Gilbert, Arizona. While applying the new exterior coatings was an important part of the project, extensive preparation was needed first to address wood repairs, caulking, nail holes and other areas throughout the home.
The existing color layout was maintained, giving the exterior a refreshed appearance while preserving the home’s established design.
Scope of the Exterior Painting Project
Before painting began, our team completed detailed preparation throughout the exterior. Nails were removed where needed, nail pops and siding joints were repaired with wood putty, and light fixtures were carefully masked and protected.
The chimney stack was painted to match the body of the home, while the soffits were coordinated with the patio ceiling.

Extensive Exterior Prep and Wood Repair
A standout element of this Gilbert exterior house painting project was the amount of preparation required before painting could begin.
The home needed substantial wood repair and caulking throughout the exterior. Addressing these areas before applying the new coatings helped create a cleaner finished appearance while providing a properly prepared surface for the paint.
Preparation included:
- Removing nails prior to painting
- Repairing nail pops
- Patching siding joints with wood putty
- Completing extensive wood repairs
- Caulking areas throughout the exterior
- Masking a large number of fixtures and surfaces
Detailed Masking and Surface Protection
Because of the home’s size, two-story design and number of exterior features, extensive masking was also required. Light fixtures and other surfaces not being painted were carefully protected before coatings were applied with the right surface preparation.
Taking the additional time to complete this detailed preparation helped create cleaner transitions between painted surfaces and protected the home’s existing exterior features throughout the project.
A Fresh Exterior While Maintaining the Original Color Layout
Rather than completely changing the home’s exterior color scheme, this project followed the existing color placement throughout the property.
French Colony provided the primary body color, while Minimalist and Cheviot created complementary accents on the soffits, fascia and patio ceiling. The finished result refreshed the exterior while maintaining the character and color layout the homeowners already had in place.
